- Demonstrated ability to lead the organization through incremental change.
- Deep knowledge of ISO (9001 & 13485), FDA and GMP requirements.
- Proven ability to integrate customer needs and functional unit objectives to achieve business unit objectives.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Familiarity with major ERP system, such as SAP or Oracle.
Preferred but not required:

- Knowledge of PCBA guidelines and/or electronics background.

- Career development -- advancement opportunities and diverse career paths are trademarks of the Beckman Coulter experience, and as you master your accountabilities, you'll be ideally positioned to evolve along multiple career paths.
- A terrific quality of life -- Porterville is the gateway to many of Southern California's scenic national parks. Out here in the country you can enjoy hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and everything the great outdoors has to offer. Our cost of living is significantly lower than most other areas of California, yet all the benefits of the city are just minutes away with brand-name outlet shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Even better, San Francisco and the Wine Country are only a few hours away for convenient weekend getaways.
- Pride -- you'll join an established, profitable and highly successful global leader that has proven itself capable of evolving to meet the needs of the marketplace and maintaining a healthy growth rate throughout.
- Excellent benefits -- in addition to a very competitive salary and bonus opportunity, we offer a robust benefits package that includes low-cost health insurance coverage for you and your family; matching 401(k) as well as a retirement account plan; stock purchase options; paid vacation and holidays; tuition assistance; and more.
More About Your Role
You will report directly to the Director of Quality--with a dotted line to the Porterville Site Manager-and supervise a team of 14 Quality personnel including a Quality Supervisor and Quality Inspectors.
As the leader handling a change initiative, you won't avoid the resistance and emotions that accompany the change process; in fact you will set a positive tone, energize the team around a unified vision--almost like a transfusion into the team's arteries--as you build trust and create productive partnerships in which everyone can offer their unique knowledge and talents.
This is a hands-on leadership role and you'll be required to "wear many hats", including both strategic and tactical roles. Your main accountabilities are to:
- Oversee inspection and testing of products for compliance with applicable regulations and ensure quality standards are incorporated into project plans, schedules and budgets.
- Work closely with team to define needs for effective performance; set performance objectives and ensure skills are developed and maintained on a continual basis to drive cost-effective operations.
- Improve quality policies and procedures and assure all functions are in compliance.
- Interface with Customer and Regulatory representatives concerning quality related issues.
- Establish quality standards, procedures, performance levels, and documentation requirements.
Keys to Success
You will inherit a long-tenured team that is set in their ways and pivotal to your success in this role is your ability to harness the power of change as you soothe ruffled feathers and energize and inspire the team to embrace this new quality vision and drive it to completion. You'll also rely on your interpersonal finesse to build consensus across department lines in a matrix style organization and influence those over whom you have no direct authority to perform at a higher level.
Other facets of success are to:
- Strike an appropriate balance between taking care of day-to-day quality activities and bringing forward new ideas and concepts for improving efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain a high energy level and energize others as you hold them accountable to their goals and continually raise the bar to achieve higher standards of quality excellence in our PCBA products.
- Continually survey customer needs and the competitive quality landscape to stay abreast of what is new and successful and make the tough decisions to quickly determine if and how this knowledge can be harnessed at Beckman Coulter. For example, we'll look to you to determine if there is a need for a Quality Engineering function.
- Achieve your objectives independently while keeping your supervisor (who works 300 miles away at our Brea facility) in the loop.
- Remain adaptive and ready to shift priorities as the need arises.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
